I started taking pictures as a teenager with my father who was an amateur photographer and my father was mostly fond of flowers. For that reason I've always refused to take pictures of flowers as such; but now that I'm 62 I am mature enough to go for it, it's never too late. And I find flowers in bw really fascinating, playing with out of focus - and with a Foveon small camera which is fun to use but also hard to use.
I love the sense of decadence, the faded and withered flowers, as occasional flies or insects on the plants. I try to refer to baroque painting and sensual beauty of black and white, and deep blacks.
