Not all of life is perfect or beautiful, but there are always parts of it close enough to cause one to pause. As I search out these intimate landscapes, I discover the gems hidden in the larger vistas. It seems personal, I feel connected
There is a visual conversation that starts as I move through the scene, being influenced by my reactions, finding different points of view, discovering different visual relationships and rhythms in the scene, different visual flows, that brings out different emotions. When I feel all tension evaporate I know I have found the shot and I better understand what I have found. I always leave feeling that I have learned something, and I am refreshed.
Black and white allows us to simmer a scene down to the basics, the forms creating the melody, the textures filling in the harmonies. I find a purity, a unification and a simplicity that catches the moment of discovery.
