Personal identity is the merging of our experiences of the world with our innate biology. The Interspace project visualizes the landscape and mechanisms within us that underpin all that we are.
Our identity resides between two great forces, our environment, and our biology. These forces are in constant dialogue with one another, sending signals back and forth through the matrix of our lived experiences, both conscious and unconscious. The figure-based images in this collection depict this communication. The still-lifes, on the other hand, aim to illustrate the landscape of identity itself.
The viewer is invited to explore the narrative of identity as forged and distilled by the wet plate’s nuanced process. The intricacies of wet plate medium hone both the idea and its execution to reveal the ephemeral idea of how we are who we are.
