"Halcyon Days” - the phrase conjures up seemingly endless sunny days of youth; funfairs, fairgrounds and family outings.
The seaside towns in England combine a particular old-fashioned charm with 21st century recreation. Long piers, built in a past era, jut out into the cold seas. A century later, people still enjoy picnicking on the sands, playing the machines in the amusement arcades and circling high on the ferris wheel.
Fairgrounds are universal yet they have their cultural differences. The atmosphere of the Frankfurt "Mainfest”, a fair which dates back to medieval times is somehow typically German.
That first trip to Blackpool fuelled my enthusiasm to discover and photograph more of England's seaside resorts and when I see the lights of a local funfair I can't resist having a look.
