When does a photograph stop being a photograph? Filters and heavy retouching have become the norm in our digital society with us even accepting A.I. programs as representations of oneself. This brings into question to what degree is an image an accurate depiction of reality. Using photographs shot in my studio of models I pushed the limits of what retouching tools can do in order to create hallucinogenic digital art. These 21st century pieces - call them instances of abstract expressionism 2.0 - attempt to raise questions on what constitutes subjective interpretation versus an objective reality. Is what we see a simulation that can only be understood in the abstract? Maybe all life is truly a surrealist masterpiece.
