Traditionally, a photograph is considered as a tool of objectively documenting experience – as an act of freezing together pulses of light that would otherwise bounce off to another part of the cosmos.
In City of gold I've tried to turn this process around and to recreate previously formed mental images on a light–sensitive surface.
The title relates to a group of Conquistadores who were lured through the Amazon basin in search of the fabled El Dorado, the golden city. They were tricked by their greed to such an extent that an image of the city must have been burning behind their eyes, originating not from the external, but from the internal realm.
