Having grown up in the south of Italy where there is still a lot to do to achieve gender equality and eliminate all kinds of discrimination, I give my contribution through photography with the aim of raising awareness on certain themes (violence of gender, discrimination etc.) as well as inquiring about the causes of inequality.
The photo is part of a project questioning gender stereotypes and misperceptions of our modern society. The images are reinterpretations of episodes from the Bible that present women as the ‘origin of sin’ with the aim to argue that certain stereotypes are deeply rooted in the catholic thinking.
Stylistically, the images are inspired by the chiaroscuro of the Italian Renaissance.
