My aim as both a photographer and writer is to dramatize elements of life we either take for granted or simply don't notice; things swept into the background or out of frame. Therein, to draw into relief the stories, tensions, and magic we inhabit moment to moment, and to highlight what can be learned from them -- even if that's just gratitude for what surrounds us.
Conventionally, my area of focus falls into documentary and street photography. While the things I shoot are 100% candid, I try to capture them in ways that feel more theatrical. Typically, this involves approximating studio lighting in unfolding scenarios -- casual sport in public space, clashes between protestors and police, or a neighbor feeding local street cats -- quickly absorbing and timing out the rhythms of what's in front of me, and rendering it as if a set piece.
My hope is this prompts people to bring a more curious, more appreciative attention to the details of their own lives.
