My project is a tribute to JMW Turner, an extraordinary person and artist who lived in an extraordinary time of the 19th century full of social changes and technical discoveries. He was the supreme representative of Romanticism, often referred to as the forerunner of the Impressionists. But he was also a person who paid a lot of attention to the industrial revolution.
My effort was to photographically realize references to contemporary industry within the English landscape (Lake District), Swiss Alps and the Venetian Lagoon - the places where JMWT worked as a painter. How would the combination of modern industry and urbanism fit into the environment of Turner's historical landscape composition and color? And are we satisfied with the current state?
All my projects are mostly composit pictures in the end. This time I really wanted to get to the edge of photography and to simulate collage work. All scenes, parts and even paper collage background are done by me or photographed. Final step is always to put various bits and pieces together as individual layers within graphical software and let them play together.
This project is the second one after Cesar Manrique, which I released last year. Next project will be about Joan Miró .
