…In this set of photographs, photocompositions and digital artworks, El A’awar presents a selection of his cumulative personal series, entitled The Imponderables (2015-2016). It features parts of El A’awar’s own body that are affected by the severe pain of arthritis. The body parts in the series were later reinvented to appear abstract, showcasing how El A’awar’s own body parts could begin to deform with the aid of the disease, but of course from out of El A’awar’s fantasy. Thus, the imagined deformations depicted organic beings that were interpreted based on El A’awar’s own imagination or even based on his repressed memories and fears from childhood. Aside of using his own body as a medium, he even began to create deformations using photographs of non-organic subjects accompanied with images of his own body too. Later, the series slowly began to include digital brushstrokes along with the body art, up until the body images depart totally from the series to reveal only the digital brush works. On another note, El A’awar envisions these serial images to be applicable for other art mediums, including furniture and tabletop designs.
