Don't Touch The Birds

The dichotomy between compassion and curiosity about animals in the zoo aroused my interest a few years ago in Vienna. In November 2022, as part of a Magnum Photos workshop “Picturing Places” with Mark Power, I had time to devote myself to the topic and photographed people looking at animals at London Zoo and Sealife. For me, too, it was a strange feeling to photograph people looking at caged animals. But with this feeling I was able to intensify the mood of the pictures. In the end, a 35-page zine was created, which was selfpublished in the London Photo Book Cafe (https://www.stefaniefreynschlag.com/dont-touch-the-birds/) The series has more than the 10 images shown.
