By capturing starlight from The Milky Way Galaxy onto photo-paper surfaces (using large home built telescopes) I provide viewers opportunity to witness deep time in both 2 and 3 dimensional forms.
I use a photographs' unique ability (especially the print) to stop and fix galactic time, in an attempt to allow individuals to consider their place in space and time.
I often combine objects with captured starlight (deep time) by combining the age (in earth years) of the object with the captured lights 'age' in space time - That is the time it has been traveling before colliding and being made permanent on the papers surface.
I use both color and monochrome photo-papers in a practice underpinned by process and aesthetic.
This submission represents the first chapter in over 8 years of research.
I work on the northern edge of the Dartmoor National Park (one of the UK's best dark sky areas) based on a remote hill farm. I am the first artist to successfully capture and use direct starlight this way.
