Defenders of Colombian coffee photographic series is the result of a month’s stay and research conducted within the coffee growers community in Colombia in the regions of Caldas and Risaralda,in November 2021.
Despite the fact that coffee is the most consumed beverage in the world after water, the earnings of coffee farmers hardly exceed 5% of the total value of profits in the world market.
Through this series I investigated the complex issues behind the coffee-producing market, interviewing and portraying coffee farmers as well as economists and young entrepreneurs to better understand the impact of this world-industry on local producers and their lives.
These photographs of places, men and women respond to the urge to bring awareness around the reality behind one of the most valuable primary commodities in the global trade, to promote a sustainable economy, respecting the land and the local cultures.
