Is there a gesture that can be described as feminist? I asked myself this during my research into understanding the technique of photo embroidery, and the role of the thread in it, considering the meaning of the gesture I discovered. In my understanding of feminism, one of its manifestations is care and support. Metaphorically, both terms relate to the technique of strengthening and repairing, like an old type of Japanese embroidery Sashiko, which I was inspired by. This technique is an expression of care and attention to the material that we use to cover, warm and protect.
