This series about auTiSM tries to depict the feelings and thoughts of autistic people. Typical symptoms, behavior or thought structures of autistic people such as repetition, clear structures, isolation/loneliness, difficulties or the inability to communicate with others are illustrated by clear geometric structures and colours or repetitions in the background elements. The persons in the pictures seem isolated and wear a geometrically structured mask. The mask stands for protection and anonymity, but it also shows the difficulty of many autistic people to communicate with their fellow human beings, especially the inability of non-verbal communication. Autistic persons often prefer a self chosen loneliness.
The spelling of the title autTiMuS intends to show the use of own rules. Here, for example, all vowels are lowercase and all consonants are uppercase.
I came up with the idea for this series after reading an article about autistic people and their sight of the world.
