A must in Vietnam, this inexpensive and resistant leaf hat called "non la" is worn in the countryside and in the city by all social classes and by women of all ages.
But also by men when working in the rice fields. The appearance of this hat dates back to the Bronze Age in the first millennium BC.
It is also mentioned in many Vietnamese legends. It is an icon of Vietnam that I wanted to photograph in a different way by playing with its often graphic roundness and the reflections of light reflected by its conical shape.
In the streets of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), then through a trip to Hue (former imperial capital) I went to meet these women of different professions who wear this hat woven with different types of leaves such as palm leaves, drop leaves, straw, bamboo, etc.
Hats usually have straps of soft fabric, velvet or silk, to tie under the chin.
