Water Series

In 1985 I began a study of color and motion using water as my canvas. Over the next several months I photographed ponds and swimming pools. I worked with the water’s surfaces, using their reflections and the incident light to explore a new visual world. A world where the landscape has no horizon lines, only layers of light and color creating spaces that are ever-changing. I printed the images in a limited edition of glossy Cibachromes to imitate the water’s fluid qualities. I enlarged them to a 30 x 30 format so that the viewer could be surrounded by water, as I was when I photographed it. I used a Hasselblad camera with an 80mm and a 150mm lens and a variety of Kodachrome and Ektachrome films.
