Jacques Mayol learned swimming at Nanatsugama at Kyushu Island of Japan in 1937. It is said that three dolphins he met there changed his life. Jacques revisited this area several times in 90s. (Original source; "Memories of Sea at Karatsu, Japan" in Wildlife magazine vol.1, 1997)
I visited such sea Jacques loved. The shore is composed with a myriad of hexagonal prism and was washed by white waves. The scene was harsher than I imagined from the story of Jacques. Thought it seems circumstances around there is relatively well reserved, avoiding the accumulation of debris from ocean might be the serious issue as well as other coasts in western Japan in order to keep here being loved.
I recently had an opportunity to see the sea Jacques loved. Though I imagined calm sea from the story of Jacques, the sea was wavy enough so that the excursion boat was canceled. The shore composed with a myriad of hexagonal prism and washed by white waves was harsher and more impressive than expected.
