In Germany, at least one in ten women suffers from the chronic illness endometriosis. Unfortunately, this condition has not been well-researched and is not well-known among the general public. Photographer Jasmin Breidenbach is one of these affected women. Endometriosis patients often endure severe pain, exhaustion, unwanted childlessness, and several other symptoms. They often struggle to get a diagnosis, visiting numerous doctors' offices for years. Additionally, their symptoms are frequently dismissed by those around them because they are not externally visible.
To address this issue, Breidenbach created an aesthetic-conceptual portrait series to provide those affected with the opportunity to visually represent their daily struggles and express themselves. Her goal is to raise awareness of endometriosis and offer a platform for individuals to share their experiences with the disease. Through these portraits, the photographer aims to contribute to educating the public about endometriosis, while also fostering a community of support and discussion.
