Immigrant Labor: Invisible Hands

As America debates the status of immigrants by welcoming them or fencing them out, they already have a pervasive presence in serving us. My images introduce you to their hidden and captive world of work persevering with repetitive physical tasks and caring moments. We are able to see the concrete nature of immigrants serving us food, making our beds, tending our lawns, manufacturing medical or telecommunication devices, and caring for our loved family members in nursing homes. On an individual basis, I believe the honesty of my photographs enables us to see their humanity as they grapple with their day to day work and perhaps allow us to set aside the political rhetoric that often seems to polarize us. Collectively, my images reflect on broader issues related to race and class in our society.
