The Elective Affinities

This work is a daily project inspired by Goethe's book Wahlverwandtschaften, and is a collection of moments that I have captured in which I have felt a particularly inevitable connection. Wahlverwandtschaften, translated in English as The Elective Affinities, refers to the ability of the same thing to smell the same thing and choose it. Affinities are at work in our world, whether between humans, humans and plants, humans and animals, plants and plants, plants and insects, and when these affinities are successfully matured, we are happy, When the affinity is matured successfully, happiness and life are fulfilled. I came to this view because of the death of my dog, who passed away on 20 April 2021. Since I was a child, living in the countryside, I was very close to nature and took it for granted every day of my life. One day, one year after becoming a working adult and leaving my hometown to move to Tokyo, my mother told me that my dog's condition had suddenly changed and that tomorrow would be a critical day for me. The following day, I noticed that a rose had blossomed in the flower bed on the balcony, which had not bloomed yesterday. I couldn't help but click the shutter because the rose looked so much like my dog who had passed away. That day, I was convinced that her spirit had been transferred to that single rose. From there, I realised that important things existed in moments that I had taken for granted every day, such as the walks I used to take with my dog every day, the sea in my hometown and flowers blooming on the side of the road, and restarted shooting in a new style.
