I've been working as a psychologist specializing in the treatment of people with schizophrenia. These people come from every walk of life, and represent approximately 1.6% of the worlds population. In essence, these are everybody's children. As a function of our therapeutic relationships, and my access to people who have this neurological disease, I've been able to make these images. These photographs have never been exhibited
Providing services to people day after day, I have always have a camera on my desk. When someone is curious, I talk about the project, and if they wish to be photographed we make some images, and I share them with them. These particular photographs were randomly chosen from more than 2000 photographs taken over the past 40+ years.
This project may have a particular importance these days, as our city streets and jails are filling with persons who should otherwise have received reasonable opportunities and treatments. Despite having the best medication's and therapies we have ever had as a mental health community, our outcomes are no better than they were in the 60s. There should be a much more effective opportunity for people with this problem.
