Do we perceive presence through comfort, belonging and merging - or perhaps through disruption of the existing order of things? And isn't merging or disappearing a disorder in itself? In my work I am asking questions about presence and context.
The male / female body is the contour, through which we produce a spatial presence in the world. It's also a container of everything and who we are. In each of my works there is a disturbance created by a new connection and dialogue of the body (mine and others) in relation to objects from the everyday environment - a dialogue that usually involves absence, camouflage, disappearance, reconnection - one that examines the boundaries of the body and the external and internal context. One that examines the female or male gaze. opposing perceptions.
The disorder is a charge. It has difficulty, invasion, exposure, which bursts out and demands presence - takes up space. This is how I brutally demand the look from the environment. Compelling to watch - at me and themselves. And maybe, by doing so I am actually expanding the boundaries of my presence.
