Draining the well of young dreams

Since the harbor explosion in 2020, Lebanon has been in free fall. Until this day, many buildings are still uninhabitable, and the economic and political crisis in the country has increased. The value of the Lira plummeted, food prices rise, medicine and fuel are scarce, electricity blackouts and unemployment rates ravage the country. Small protests who are blocking roads and setting tiers on fire are popping up more frequently. Despite the tense situation, young adults keep chasing their dreams and a new generation graduate each year in the hope of building a future for themselves. But how do you build a future in Lebanon, a country where things go from bad to worse. In this context, where more young people leave school to support their families, these young dreamers are on a thin line between rashness and responsibility. Through personal portraits and city landscapes, the photographic report ‘Draining the well of young dreams’ shows how young adults look at their future and try to find a way in the current situation in Beirut.
