Each pairing here includes an image from Massachusetts and one from California - the place I grew up, and the place I have spent my adult life. The tension between these two visual influences has always intrigued me, because I perceived them to be so different. One was always home, and one still feels foreign.Yet, as I paired these images, I discovered more similarities than differences. Not coincidentally, this process took place after my mother passed away, marking the end of my physical ties to the east coast. That sense of straddling two identities is expressed here, even as the images have a unifying, healing affect..
