Daddy Daycare portrays the intimate bonds between father and son. Joy and tenderness are present, yet motifs of masculinity are also explored, complicating the narrative around Black fatherhood.
The criminalization of Black bodies and the adultification of young Black boys is alluded to through water guns held by Moishe and his son, Eli. Another stereotype of Black people "not being able to swim" is subtle but present in the setting of a shallow bathtub as opposed to an actual pool.
These photos feel sensitive, and I hope viewers see a father and son having lighthearted fun and not the typical stereotypes associated with Black men and boys.
