Magic Forest at Lake George NY (a resort area in upstate NY) was one of the last of the old fashioned amusement parks for little children. The park was not part of some huge conglomerate. It was a family run operation. The park had rides and exhibits centered around children's themes such as Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes and Grimm's Fairy Tales. Characters from tall tales such as Paul Bunyan were present and there were cartoon related exhibits including Sponge Bob and Scooby Doo. There were also characters from Disney movies including Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. A 50-ft tall Uncle Sam and a Santa Claus greeted the park's guests in the parking lot. A petting zoo and a diving horse (reportedly closely monitored by PETA) were part of the fun. The fiberglass figures at the park were custom made or obtained from other exhibitions such as the Disney's Snow White exhibit at the 1939 NY Worlds Fair. The park closed approximately 7-years ago. I tried to capture the essence of a slightly strange but very amusing park that the kids absolutely loved!
