THE WHITE TREASURE

Some people have wondered why the mountains south of Genova wear a white hat even in summer. For about 2000 years, the famous finely grained white marble has been quarried around the Carrara area. Michelangelo was already a customer and ordered his block for the figure of David in Carrara. Every day huge cubes are cut out of the mountain in the 150 quarries. Imposing geometrically divided rock walls visually swallow up the industrious little construction machines, which look like toys. Curse and blessing go hand in hand. While nature suffers more and more from year to year, architects and landowners enjoy the white treasure. It is estimated that in 50 years this aesthetic resource will be exhausted.
