Over 90..alone at home

Alone at Home… with memories A glimpse into the lives of the elderly Photo Essay 2023 As our population ages it is important to show the incredible lives of the elderly and provide role models and inspiration to others. Photographing people over 90 has opened the doors for me to experience the beauty, grace, and dignity of those often forgotten or dismissed in our culture. They live surrounded by bountiful memories of photos, objects, writings, and books. The walls and tabletops give a glimpse into who they were in the past and what they continue to hold on to. Each person loved to talk of their past lives, their deceased partners, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each person has neighbors and family members who visit and check in on them, but they are remarkably independent. While most have had some tragedy in their lives, they are grateful to be alive. Zoom has allowed then to connect with family far away, to continue their political work and to maintain social connections, so important to the elderly. It is an honor to spend time with them, to hear their stories and to share back the photos. I would like to continue this project as I identify more people who open their doors to me. I am working to expand the series and seeking our more diverse representation .
