Seeking Nowhere

Seeking Nowhere, 2020, is a typology 37"(h) x 65"(w) x 4"(d) body of work made by fused glass and photographic decals composed of 35 photographs of five different sea horizons, each repeated seven times (the individual pieces are approximately 5" x 7,5" each). By controlling the kiln's heat, I have achieved different textures and distortions, creating a group that looks similar while each conveys a unique perspective. In Seeking Nowhere, I investigate the sense of belonging that immigrants seek when they leave their homeland. I believe it takes enormous courage and strength for an immigrant to leave behind everything they know to explore new horizons. For each of these travelers, the experience is different even when the horizons are the same.
