Tết, or Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is considered the most important occasion of the year. It is a tradition that no matter where you are on Earth, every time Tết comes, that is the time to go Home, visit your beloved ones, share the joy of reunion, and simply enjoy some days break from the hectic daily life routines. Accordingly, Tết is the event that is most photo-catchy, when everyone would want to pick up a camera and capture moments, regardless of you are a pro or amateur.
Once, I raise myself a question when it comes to photographing Tết: What would you wish you would have photographed in Vietnamese Lunar New Year, except for familiar topics like the famous "girls in Ao dai", street festivals, family vacation or Tết traditions?
In this new series, which started just a few weeks before Lunar New Year, I aim my focus on the diverse representations for the meanings of Tết, particularly in the context of my family. Seen through the acts of such a brilliant "Vedette" - my Mom's hands, Tết shows up in its full palates: hectic moments versus quite ones, antiquetes versus modern norms, and even the Cat (this year's Zodiac of Vietnamese) appears in the frame.
This documentary project is dedicated to my beloved Mother, and is also a gift to celebrate Tết, celebrate life!
