This project emerged from a personal journey, as I purchased a budget camera during a period of creative block and depression. Restricting myself to one camera, I embarked on aimless walks, finding solace in photography as therapy.
During these walks, I gravitated towards my local Sainsbury's, a habit from lockdown,
where I challenged myself to capture the shoppers and their interactions with products. I observed their perplexed gazes deciphering prices, the deliberations between different products - bio or non bio, and the hurried individuals using their hands as makeshift baskets, trying to stay within budget.
These photographs became an obsession, leading me to delve deeper into our societal dependence on consumerism. I started exploring pound stores and market stalls, I extended my exploration to include car boot sales.
Through this series, my intention is to illuminate the resilience and resourcefulness of individuals navigating consumerism amidst financial challenges. I aim to share their stories and shed light on the everyday struggles they face, revealing the complexities of our relationship with consumer culture.
