Few people in Plovdiv remember the reason for the appearance of the Russian market and why it is held there. The only thing known is the origin of the name. Back in the days of socialism, merchants from the Soviet republics arrived to trade goods.
In addition, to all Soviet equipment, this was also the place to buy spare parts. Bulgarian citizens travelled from the socialist block collecting a variety of goods to sell and exchange on the flea market.
With the arrival of democracy in the 1990s, the flea market is preserved, the stalls are missing, the residents of the neighborhood position the items for sale on the white sheeting added to the muddy parking lot. People of gypsy origin put up for sale every Sunday morning everything collected during the week. The reservation of the market place by the sellers starts even before sunrise between 4-5 o'clock.
At dawn, regular shoppers and antique dealers snap up the valuable items, and after sunrise, hundreds of people gather around the well-ordered stalls among the neighborhood's Hausa. Against the background of the filth and illegal dump located at the back of the market, every Sunday in a crystal white robe, chef Georgi likes to sell homemade mud sandwiches. Here you can search for everything that you are not looking for. From furniture, electrical appliances, broken phones, tools and unsuspecting valuable antiques.
