The essence of my photographic work is to capture the relationship between people and their environments, particularly in the streets of San Francisco's Mission District. The old-school California culture of classic "lowrider" cars is a vivid expression of creativity, resourcefulness and dexterity, and the exuberant cruises down Mission Street in San Francisco are a celebration of culture, identity and community, spiced with a lot of style, flash and attitude. At these events people seem to feel connected with their neighborhood and culture, while also remaining solidly themselves. With this series of photographs I attempt to convey something of the vitality, the artistry, the fun and sense of community that characterize the experience of being out "At the Cruise".
