Five years ago, I started a work on memory entitled “In the enchanted family, I ask…”. It is an introspective attempt to rewrite, reinterpret and reclaim my personal story and these of my family.
At first, the work was essentially photographic, then, having since become a painter, the approach quite naturally migrated towards something more pictorial, on the border between photography and painting.
This self-portrait is part of an “in progress” series in black & white, the image that I reworked here is both a self-portrait photography made by me when I was 5 years old as well as ink on paper color painting called The eye that I have done in 2022.
With this work, I have the impression of forging links with my ancestors, of getting to know them but also of building up me a stock of protective and restorative amulets.
