These photographs are a selection from many taken as part of a personal photography project and labour of love which aimed to document most of the 100-plus mission halls of Northern Ireland. Non-denominational places of worship, the mission halls stand for one overriding aim: to preach the Word of God.
Each one is unique and a testament to the dedication, unwavering faith and hard work of its people. Some of the halls are still in operation today and hold services on Sundays and throughout the week. Others are closed down but still, in many cases, their interiors and artefacts are preserved and offer a wonderful insight into a more innocent past.
In my photography journey I have been inspired by many including Dorothea Lange, Margaret Bourke-White, Martin Parr and Matt Black: their work is always artistic, constantly refreshing and thought-provoking.
This project was published as a hardback book by Ambassador International, entitled 'The History of Mission Halls throughout Northern Ireland'.
