Student Athlete Studio "Promo" Portraits

I started this project a little over a year ago as a portfolio-building exercise but it has quickly grown into a personal project that I really enjoy. I am always on the lookout for the next athlete to bring into the studio. So far, I've had basketball players, baseball players, soccer players, a color guard performer, a dancer, and a fencer. The whole thing was inspired one night while I was watching a Boston Bruins game. The Bruins always use a low-key style with pretty dramatic light for their promotional player photos. I really liked the look of what they were putting out and decided it would be a cool project for me to try something similar with local student-athletes. When I started this project I had just opened my first studio and was looking for a way to practice and grow as a portrait photographer while giving back to the community in some small way.
