BEING AS it is original, driven and developed by an inspired fascination with color and light that explores the basically ignored phenomenon of refraction making it unique to photography and contemporary art, I think my project is about creativity as much as anything else. It has developed into a way of photographing my imagination in the refracted compositions that I photograph, perceived as imaginary visiting 20th century art influences that inspired and taught me how to SEE, that have metaphysical implications (related to scrying) along with the aesthetic, topological and mathematical statements that result from their fusion.
I feed from the same trough as Wolfgang Tillman, backed up by a 50-year portfolio that includes some of the best photographs ever taken of Mexican indigenous festivals and Houston architecture. I could also say the same about Minor White, whose eye I share attracted to the same forms, light and shadow. I would’ve taken every shot of his that I’ve seen.
