“No Longer, Not Yet” delves into the complex reality faced by Tunisia's young generations, existing in a liminal space that straddles between the hope for a prosperous future and the absence of opportunities.
The long lasting youth marginalisation during the years of President Ben Ali gave birth to a national revolt sparked by the self-immolation of 26 year old Mohammed Bouazizi on December 2010.
The young generations of Tunisians became unstoppable in their protests against unemployment and lack of civil liberties. They sought to create a new political and social culture based on equity, social justice and freedom of expression, opposite to the one of the past.
However, as much as it was successful ousting Ben Ali and establishing a new democracy, the revolution did not radically change society as expected.
According to UNHCR, in 2022 almost 20% or the migrants that landed on the Southern-Italian shores were Tunisian citizens.
Suspended in time, while guarding the achievements of the revolution from the risk of another authoritarian turn, young people in Tunisia are still waiting for a generational turnover and a future that is late to arrive.
