My latest documentary photography series delves into the intriguing lives of young Bulgarians who have chosen to leave urban centers for the tranquility and natural connection found in rural villages. This migration, in part catalyzed by the Covid pandemic, paints a vivid picture of a generation seeking solace and harmony with nature.
At the core of my photographic exploration are two interwoven themes. The first captures the intense pressures of contemporary society, and the refuge that an increasing number of young individuals are discovering in the countryside. Through my lens, I've sought to portray the serenity and simplicity that rural life offers, contrasting it with the chaos of urban existence.
The second theme focuses on the state of the Bulgarian countryside itself. My images bear witness to the neglect and decay that have befallen many villages, as the government's lack of investment and development initiatives have left them in a state of disrepair. The juxtaposition of youthful hope and systemic neglect forms a compelling narrative that resonates throughout the series.
