Residual Memory

This body of work was taken at the photographer’s parents’ home and consists of staged photography using natural and artificial light. The series was shot during 2022-2023, when the photographer’s father, who suffers from dementia, lost his memory and basic cognitive and functional abilities. The series examines from a son's perspective, the fading of the parents, the couple's struggle, and the family relationship in the reality imposed by the disease. A relationship that loosens on one level due to communication problems, frustration, and anxiety and is strengthened on another level, thanks to care, concern, and compassion. The photography sessions break up the daily routine of the elderly parents. The attention paid makes them look forward to it and devote themselves to the camera.
