In my photographic series, “Skin to Skin,” I explore the intimate journey of motherhood and my impact on my daughter’s
development as she grows.
As a single mother, I am acutely aware of my responsibility in shaping her perceptions of the world. Like blank canvases, children
absorb the colours of their environment. As her mother, (and sole carer), I have inevitably become the model via which she will form her understanding of womanhood and life itself.
Through my camera, I capture the tender moments when my daughter imitates my actions, mirroring her curiosity about the world through my eyes. The innocence of childhood is a delicate dance, akin to the art of ballet, where appearances hold significant sway, and the pursuit of female perfection begins to take shape. In each frame, I witness her dreams, aspirations, and vulnerability. Her
expressive face often questions the experiences that challenge her, seeking reassurance, as if to ask, “Why did you allow this to
happen?” In her quest for independence, she remains drawn to the embrace of my arms, finding both comfort and strength in our bond.
As her mother and father, friend and mentor, I play multifaceted roles, nurturing
