Bothered by nature shrinking under our growing industrial cover I photograph natural talents amidst pristine settings to draw attention to climate impact. Dramatically lit dancers strike exquisite poses that command consideration. The origin story of this series begins in a hospital basement followed by an ivory tower. Shortly after a full recovery from paralysis, I received grants to work with noted scientists. Working with bionano researchers and digital prosthetics designers I was offered a rare glimpse of vanguard processes. Witnessing medical ‘advancements’ affording superhuman capability made me appreciate natural ability ever more. I left the lab and have been working on location ever since. Some works sadly have become postcards of an immediate past as the settings are no longer free of buildings – making all too clear the impact of climate change. The photographs, with equal parts celebration and suspicion, shine light on an edge of reality between the precious and the forgotten.
