This body of work was created through a chance encounter during my first trip to Haiti this year with a wonderful person who has dedicated her life to helping others. Her name is Tirsa Mazariegos and she is the creator of Lauriers Community Development Project. Her vision is to teach all of the families in the community through determination, compassion, love and discipline that a society can press forward and work collectively to achieve self-sustainability. I had the privilege to be invited by Tirsa to do a short documentary about the community up on the hills of le Cap Haitien. I witnessed first hand the hardships of five of single mothers from the community and their children's. Food scarcity, restricted access to water, lack of infrastructure and housing, and limited means of education are only some of the challenges that these family face on a daily basis.
My hope is that this reportage can bring awareness to how difficult life is in the Lauriers community and that this example can also be taken further to the overall currently complicated economical, social and political situation in Haiti.
