This is an ongoing project that I plan to continue throughout my life. I am 35 now and so I think if I am lucky I have another 35 years to go. The project aims to document the hidden characters of North Wales by shining a spotlight on the unique and overlooked. My method is simple: I drive to a nearby town (usually coastal) and walk around with one camera and one lens until I see what I am looking for. Then I walk up to the person in question and ask them for their portrait. I shoot quickly, aiming to capture something half way between candid and posed. I think this helps to bring out the individual's character before they have time to second guess themselves. I am not interested in those who look and live their lives like everyone else, nor am I interested in those who identify themselves with a particular 'alternative' culture, only to end up looking and behaving exactly like their peers. Instead I look for the sweet spot in between. It takes a little longer, but if I wait long enough and look hard enough, I usually find it.
