The images I am making in Essential Thread are a visible reflection what isn’t always evident as we pass someone in the street or across the board room table. They are an external representation of an inner world we often feel we have to hide or dampen down to fit in.
I asked my closest female friends and relations what colour they felt represented their life force, their spirit, their deepest, truest self. For want of a better description I called it their essential thread. I thought it was a vague question and a hard one to answer but each quickly landed on a colour. When they talked about their colour they talked about their deep emotional landscape, what drives them forward, what motivates them, what helps them get out of bed even on the darkest of days. As each person reflected on the colour and the memories it evoked some had tears rolling down their cheeks, they explained that reflecting on what was so essentially true about them brought them home.
