Winged Quiddity

My project integrates portraiture with (mostly) winged creatures that I find on my property in Wisconsin: feathers, insects, butterflies, and petals. I place these items onto a printed portrait and re-photograph it. The process transforms the subject into a otherworldly being and shows what I think to be its quiddity - the inherent nature or essence of someone or something. My artwork is character driven, mystical, and environmentally minded. I hope that these images encourage viewers to recognize the animal-like qualities within themselves that are essential to their personalities and how they go about the world.
