A series of scans of my hand exploring the visual language of disability considering the historical, cultural, and social views of the disabled body and my own position as a person with a disability in contemporary society. Throughout history, the disabled body has been seen as fragile and broken, but (for me) my hands are my sense of mobility, access, and independence as a creative practitioner with a physical disability and as a wheelchair user. This is part of a series and ongoing body of work exploring concepts of my physical disability.
