Having recently moved to the countryside from bustling cities--and in a whole new country altogether, from the U.S. to Sweden--I wanted to create a project that focuses on finding a sense of place in a new environment.
Now free from light pollution in the city, I have been drawn to the delicate evening glow that emerges in my backyard when blue hour arrives. This project allows me to pay attention to and sit with those those moments between daylight and night time when colors, reflections, and occasional rain showers bring new life to the surface when the sun goes down. Colors are more saturated, textures are more salient, and the atmosphere is still but vibrant.
For this project I set certain parameters to stay focused and keep the project honest. I photograph every day between 8:30 and 9:30pm, the local time in Falkenberg, Sweden where I currently live. I have had to make slight adjustments to that timeframe as the project progresses, given that the sun is starting to set a bit earlier. I will continue this project for another three weeks, at which time I will gather the "cream of the crop" and prepare it for future submissions and publication.
