“Racines" is a journey towards my roots in Corsica, a land I was close to as a child, until I was cut off from it for 16 years.
To witness a place or to share experiences with another person creates a sharing memory. But what place does an absent individual have in the apprehension of the memory, its continuation and its transmission? How to explore, tame, celebrate and maintain the family heritage in this perspective?
Absence is the driving force behind my thinking. I consider it not as a lack or an end, but as a genesis, which allows for the permutation of reality, idealization, desire and commemoration of blood ties. This project is based on family photographs taken between 1945 and 2022.
On the one hand, I reappropriate the memories lived and passed down to someone, the rupture and death thanks to thanks to the superimposition of past photos and their present recreation. On the other hand, another part of my work is dedicated to embroidering archive images and current pictures.
This work aims to push the public to think about the place of absence in their interpretation of family narratives.
